Vesey's volunteers ready for Community Games

Sixth formers from Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School are giving up their time to help make the Sutton Coldfield Community Games a success once again.
Over 50 volunteers from the school will be on duty at Wyndley Leisure Centre on July 9th and 10th for the free weekend event, which aims to give everyone an opportunity to try their hand at the enormous variety of sports played and activities enjoyed in and around Sutton Coldfield.
Some of the sixth formers at the school were joined by Dennis Kennedy, organiser of the Sutton Games, and Chris Green, from sponsors Green & Co estate agents, to mark the partnership for what is set to be the biggest Community Games ever – with more than 60 sports and activities running over the two-day event.
Dennis Kennedy said: “The Sutton Coldfield Community Games is a free event run completely by volunteers, and if it wasn’t for the generosity of the sixth formers at Bishop Vesey’s we would not be able to make it as big as it is.
“They did a fantastic job last year as our very own Games Makers in the style of London 2012 and I cannot thank the school and its pupils enough for the support they are showing again this year.”
Chris Green said: “This is our fourth year supporting the Community Games and we cannot wait to get started again.
“Green & Co is proud to play such as active part in our local community. Staff from our branches across Sutton Coldfield and surrounding areas will be giving up their time to join the Community Games committee, Bishop Vesey’s volunteers, other sponsors and a host of local sports clubs in helping to make it a fun-packed weekend.”
Dr Adrian Reilly, Assistant Head of Sixth Form at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, said: “Our sixth formers were delighted to volunteer at the Community Games last year and there was no question of them stepping forward again this year. It’s a fantastic initiative and we are looking forward to getting involved.”
